WHICH youngster today doesn’t know the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse series from the Disney Channel with its games, activities, music and stories?
Now, preschoolers and primary school pupils can also enjoy this Playhouse Disney Original Series in book form. Pelican Publishing Sdn Bhd, under licence from The Walt Disney Company (Southeast Asia) Pte Ltd, has come out with 10 storybooks based on this series plus a Scary Sudoku Sticker Puzzle Book.
Five of the storybooks – The Overnight Camp-in; A Rainy Day Adventure; The Bake Sale; Let’s Get Goofy; and Dr Daisy, MD (all at RM8.90 each) – are written by Thea Feldman and illustrated by Loter, Inc.
The other five – Minnie’s Rainbow; Up, Up, and Away; Look Before You Leap (all at RM8.90 each); A Hot-Dog Day (RM11.90); and Whose Birthday is It? (RM9.90) – are by Sheila Sweeny Higginson and illustrated by the Disney storybook artists or Loter, Inc.
These are simple tales about the fun Mickey, Minnie, Goofy, Donald, Daisy, Pluto and Toodles – the keeper of the Mouseketools, have on their adventures and activities.
And while the children have fun reading, they also learn skills like counting and solving problems, and a host of other things like friendship, sharing and helping.
One book (Minnie’s Rainbow) is in short rhyme while the rest are wordier with A Hot-Dog Day being the longest at 60 pages compared to the rest, which are each about 20 pages long.
All the books are easy reading with plenty of "Meeska, Mooska, Mickey Mouse" calls and come with full-page illustrations on every page plus a page of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse character stickers. Some even offer a free fridge magnet.
Whose Birthday is It? has, in addition, lift-the-flap fun in every page as Mickey goes on a hunt to discover who is having a birthday.
Some books also have a parent’s page at the back which gives tips on teaching children through the use of simple games.
For some puzzle fun, the Sudoku Sticker Puzzle Book (RM8.90) has more than 200 picture stickers to choose from to solve the 18 puzzles here.
