Notify cops of holiday plans, people advised
cramen

PETALING JAYA (Jan 18, 2009) :
Police have advised people returning to their hometowns for the Chinese New Year holidays next week to notify their area police stations.

Selangor police chief DCP Datuk Khalid Abu Bakar said this was to enable his personnel to monitor the houses closely during the absence of the dwellers. He said there was a special form available at all police stations which was also being distributed to houses for residents to fill for this purpose.

He said past records showed that this practice reduced crimes dramatically as police intensified their patrols in places where residents were not around.

Speaking at the launch of the "Balik Kampung, Rumah Selamat" campaign jointly organised by police and resident associations in Subang Jaya and held at the Sunway Pyramid today, Khalid urged residents to be vigilant and enhance the spirit of neighbourliness to fight crime.

He said all residents of Selangor should keep the state police hotline number (03-2052 9999) handy or memorise it as it will be useful during emergencies.

Also at the launch was Sunway Group chairman and Selangor Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation (MCPF) chairman Tan Sri Jeffrey Cheah who said programmes are being drawn up by the foundation to engage the public in getting involved in crime prevention.
