Special fiesta for women
Maria J.Dass

NOT many women are aware of the various organisations they can turn to when the going gets tough for them, be it being in an abusive marriage, relationship or health wise.

Many from the fairer sex are also unaware of various programmes, perks and assistance they and their families are entitled to like that offered by Tabung Anak Selangor (Tawas) and one-stop centre for battered women set up by the Selangor state government.

Towards this, Fiesta Femina – a special programme targeted at women below the age of 35 – will be held on June 7 at the Kelana Jaya park, to provide awareness and a bridge to much needed links and aid for women in Selangor.

Set to run from 8am to 7pm the fiesta will feature about 40 booths selling products for women and offering an array of services.

Seri Setia assemblyman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the aim of the carnival, organised by his office together with the Selangor state government and the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ), is to empower women, promote their health and well-being and to promote young female entrepreneurs as well as social awareness.

“There will be booths set up by organisations like the National Cancer Council (MAKNA), while a booth set up by the state government will disseminate information on the various programmes that Selangor has made available for women and their families which many are still unaware of,” he said.

Non-governmental organsations and women’s groups will also set up booths to meet and speak to women who need advice and assistance on an array of matters, Nik Nazmi said.

“Performances and talks by various personalities have also been lined up,” he said.

The speakers include Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar, Subang Jaya assemblywoman Hannah Yeoh, Selangor research officer Tricia Yeoh, Celebrity and 3R host Celina and advocate on home schooling Mamafiza.
