MORE than 100,000 local and foreign visitors are expected to attend the inaugural Selangor Musical Extravaganza 2009 in Shah Alam from Aug 1-9.

The event, aimed at promoting local talents, will feature more than 20 performing artistes such as Jaclyn Victor, Yuna, Noryn Aziz and Azmyl Yunor.

Themed “Electric Mix of Rhythmic Sensation”, the musical event was conceptualised by Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim and implemented by the state tourism committee headed by exco member Elizabeth Wong.

“The event is to provide an avenue for in-depth musical expressions, unwavering encouragement for musical involvement, finite appreciation of musical offerings and to promote music and a timeless art that can be expressed in many different forms,” said Wong.

She said the event which is also aimed at unearthing new and promising performers and entertainers from diverse backgrounds, promises to be highly interesting and bring together people from all walks of life and culture.

The event will also showcase a variety of performances by independent artistes, traditional dance troupes, Balle-balle, Cempuling and Cempuling Meru and Dikir Barat.

There will also be competitions such as brass band, Halilintar drum, traditional dance and Patriotic Idol.

To complement the musical festival, a host of other activities including the Marhaban & Berzanji Selangor Festival, World Orang Asal Celebrations, Twin Festival and a parade of mini cars will also be held.

The events will be held at various venues  such as Auditorium MBSA, Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam, Laman Budaya, Plaza Alam Sentral Shah Alam and Datran Shah Alam.
