Honest journalism is rare
I REFER to “Hazards of telling the truth” (Down2Earth, Nov 24). Principles, honesty, integrity, honour, moral conviction and telling the truth can sometimes be dirty words. These noble values are only noble in some countries.
A minister was recently reported as saying that we should have more spin doctors. I wonder what is the intention of this minister when he made this statement? To my understanding a spin doctor’s role is to spin a story in favour of the organisation he is working for. This is hypocrisy.
I congratulate journalists like Terence Fernandez and Citizen Nades for their values and honesty in discharging their duties. Honesty is a rare commodity in Malaysia and it is refreshing to know that such persons can still be found in journalism.
No mainstream media reported on the Budget deficit. Until journalists write and disseminate analytical discourse, the management of the economy is likely to go down the drain with serious repercussions to Malaysians including journalists.
So please do your part as reliable and honest journalists and report the truth – nothing but the truth as the future of Malaysia is in some ways determined by your action or inaction.
