PETALING JAYA: Neighbourhood Fun with theSun made its return with the "Walk Hunt @ 1 Utama" on Sept 20 that included a variety of activities such as dancing, sand art colouring and even "sushi" tasting – all in one day!

The winners of the family craft competition.

Fortunately, it did not just stop there. Plenty of cash, cash vouchers, hampers and even a prize worth RM1,888 were given away to lucky winners while others walked home with goodie bags containing sponsors’ items and with memorable moments.

The event was held at the entrance (opposite FCUK) of the shopping centre’s new wing.

Participants of the "walk hunt" were first given a briefing and then the 80 teams began their "hunt" at the shopping centre.

While they were "hunting"– going up and down looking for answers, other activities were held on the ground floor. Sushigroove, a new restaurant, gave free sushi-making demonstrations.

Four items in their "Groovy Sushi" menu — Ziggy Roll, Fushion Dragon Roll, Extravaganza Roll and I "love" Unagi — were prepared by Sushigroove’s chef at their booth. His skills in preparing the Japanese food attracted many to the booth.

When the host of the event announced that the participants could taste the food, the "sushi" disappeared within minutes.

Earlier, Sushigroove also gave free "Sushigroove" tattoos to all participants, who only needed to show these tatoos at the Sushigroove outlet at 1 Utama to redeem a RM10 free voucher valid for one month.

This was followed by the kids’ craft competition, which was divided into two categories – for those aged between 5 to 8, and those aged 9 to 12. Children participated in the sand art competition and later, a family craft competition and sand art competition, were also held.

Children had lots of fun during the PowerKidz Idol Dancing Competition where they "matched steps" with PowerKidz mascot, "Mrs Moo Moo", to the tune of the famous Macarena song.

The event was sponsored by PowerKidz Milk Colostrum Chewables.

The first winner was Louis Fong Jin, who received a hamper containing the products worth RM570.

The Walk Hunt first prize winners – Song Eu Jin, Joanne Tan Lin Chao, Lenny Wan and Tan Tean Poay – who called themselves "Sitting Ducks", scored 54 points. They won themselves RM500 cash, RM100 Sushigroove vouchers and one crate of "Revive" drinks.

Lenny said the group only knew about the event a day before and planned to save their winnings in view of the present economic situation.

Second prize winners were the "3 plus 1" team, comprising Teoh Seok May, Hong Jing Hann and Hong Jing Qi. They won RM300, RM100 Sushigroove vouchers and a crate of "Revive" drinks.

Third prize winners were the "Southwest Mandarin Ducks", namely Edwin Ong, Lee Kin Fui, Siow Choo Yan and Goh Chiou Yuh, who took away RM200, RM100 Sushigroove vouchers and a crate of "Revive" drinks.

Housewife Ooi Kim Kit, 40, and her son, Chin Wui Teng, 16, won the first prize in the family craft competition and walked away with a Pensonic Natural Pure Water System worth RM1,888, Sushigroove voucher worth RM100 and goodie bags, containing sponsors’ items.

Meanwhile, the winners of kids craft competition received Sushigroove vouchers worth RM100 and goodie bags containing sponsors items.

At the end of the event, Sushigroove performed a special dance for the participants.

The main sponsor of the event was CIMB Bank, which also gave away free items to the participants of the "wheel of fortune" contest at their booth and also promoted its products and services.

Co-sponsors were Revive, Eveready, Nescafe Gold, Pensonic, PowerKidz, Sushigroove, Kid’z Art ‘N’ Fun Zone, and the venue sponsor was 1 Utama Shopping Centre.
